This edition of the Akuna -West Head Road Race promises to explode with action on October 12 with MWCC riders battling it out for their club championship and the other grades battling for the glory of a West Head podium.

This edition will see some variations to allow for the MWCC Championships. We will have Manly Only grades and then grades open to all other riders. Please enter the grade and division that you are eligible for.

Now there is always one peanut who decides that he wishes he was a MWCC rider and enters that grade only to discover on race day that he is in the wrong division. So please read and select the correct division. If your division is already full, then don’t select a MWCC division. Because on race day you won’t be starting and you won’t be refunded – just to help you learn your lesson.

As a result of the changes, we expect that entries will go quickly and so don’t wait until the last minute. All grade numbers are strictly enforced to ensure our continued racing on this circuit. Entries open 9am 5 October. Enter via Trybooking –
Riders should note that they must complete the full course in order to be eligible for the podium. If you are dropped from your group for any reason, please do not join back into your group or another group. You may tap out the rhythm on the back of a group and get a lift back to the finish line. This is a road race and not a criterium. This may seem obvious to most, but there are some that are surprised by this.

A Grade Open is a 3 lap race that will start at 7:20am.

A Grade MWCC will start 7:25am

B Grade is a two lap event. Riders will race from the bottom of Akuna Bay. 7:30am

B Grade MWCC 7:35am

C Grade is a two lap event. Riders will race from the bottom of Akuna Bay. 7:40am

C Grade MWCC 7:45am

D Grade is a single lap event. This grade has a neutral climb up Akuna. This is a great entry level to racing, it is popular with some of our more senior riders and those who are new to racing. We also have a number of our female riders entering this grade. This grade is as much about racing as it is learning the craft of racing. this grade will combine MWCC and other clubs.

All riders must show a current 2014 Gold Racing Licence and an approved Australian Standards Helmet at the sign on.

As usual our road race will be signing on from 7am for all grades down at the Akuna Bay Marina – pre entry is available until Friday 10 October 5pm, unless sold out prior. If you pre enter please ensure you arrive at a minimum 10 minutes before your race start. There is plenty of parking available in the Akuna Bay car park and toilets are available.

Please ensure that you use the toilets inside the marina complex. Behind a tree is not a toilet.

If you haven’t raced before but are considering it – our guide to entering may be of some assistance.
Our race can send your heart rate rocketing from the roll out, so we do encourage riders to be warmed up and recommend that you consider parking around Terrey Hills and riding into the park, to ensure that you have had a good warm up prior to race start. Please be cautious on the descent down into the Park.

The finish line and presentation area is located at the Elvina Walking Track Car park on West Head Road.

We would request that you do not park in the Elvina Walking Track car park – this not only assists our marshalls when they head up there to set up for the finish, but also assists with our relations with the National Parks. This also gives riders more room to hang around in post race.
