Sydney’s fastest and best crit racers are lining up for the Northern Sydney Cycling Club’s Rob Hodgson Memorial Race on the 4th January at Beaumont Road, Mount Ku-Ring-Gai. Come race and celebrate the life of a rider who’s race was cut short due to cancer. There is also a women’s only crit race that promises to be a great addition to the Sydney racing calendar.
There will be three races – an Elite Platinum event,an A-grade Silver event and a Women’s Platinum race. Invited racers will include riders close to Rob, top Sydney riders and up-and-coming racers. Entries are via online entry only, head over to www.northernsydneycyclingclub.org.au and in their web shop you can purchase your entry to this spectacular race day.
The Platinum Men’s race will be 1 hour plus two laps. Around 20 riders have been invited and are on the start list. The remaining will be limited entry. This is an elite race and is expected to have average of 42-45kph average. Total prize pool will be $1200 across top 3 places, plus a prime. MWCC will have a number of riders riding in this filled. A number of our NRS riders will be marking each other closely such as Jake Kauffmann, Dan Bonello and Tom Patton. However it may be the club riders of Brad Hamblett or Matt Rozyn who may still the glory, either through going on the attack or timing their sprint to perfection.
The Women’s Platinum Race will be 40 minutes plus 2 laps. Prize Pool of $800 across top 3 places. The commissaire will set women’s race as a handicap event to even the field. This will be a great race for women to enter and race in front of a crowd on a safe course. Looking at teh start list MWCC will be represented by riders such as Alex Green who will be making the move from the track to the road, Lana Moy is coming into form at the right time and Rowan Sams, the great revelation of the Sydney Womens Race Series will also be pinning on a number. MWCC strongly encourage all ladies to enter this event, clubs go to a lot of effort putting on these events and they need your support to be a success. If there is anything that the club can do to assist, getting you on the start line then please let us know.
The Silver race will 50 minutes plus 2 laps, and is open to A grade and competitive B grade riders, with a 41+kph plus average. Total prize pool will be $400 across top 3 places. Looking at the start list provided to us, it looks like MWCC will be presenting a number of options to ensure that we are on top of the podium. Dave Rubin, Pete Moore bring plenty of horsepower to the circuit and Chris Taylor is in good form at present.
The race will take place around the infamous Beaumont Road circuit. This is a fairly flat and fast course, which is made difficult by two hair pin turns at either end around some witches hats, which has riders accelerating and sprinting twice a lap. The finish straight is flat and open, with riders coming into view of the finish line with a few hundred metres to go.
Start time is 8.00am with sign on from 7:30am.
Race entry online only. Entry fees are $20 per rider. Riders must present a 2015 race license or Cycling Australia receipt to be eligible to ride. An Australian Standard approved helmet must also be available for inspection.
The event will be hosted by NSCC with Paul Craft and Jono Page on the microphone providing the commentary during the race. MWCC will also have our club tent there to provide a meeting point and shade for our riders pre and post event.
Food and drink will be available – coffee vendor and cake stall. All proceeds from cake stall will be donated to the Patricia Ritchie Centre for Cancer Care & Research (via the Friends of the Mater Foundation).
